What Digital Camera Should I Buy?

onlinephotography1Choosing a digital camera is an individual choice. The model that is best for you might not work for someone else. Before you start to look at different models, the first step is to take inventory of your photography needs. For some people, the price of the camera is the most important feature. Other people want high-end features like super zoom lenses or editing capabilities. Some of these features are even found on less expensive models, so do some research first.

Decide how often you are going to use your camera and for what purpose. Recreational digital photography users can get away with basic models, but someone who wants to sell photographs probably needs a luxury model with a digital single lens reflex (DSLR). Someone who is just learning photography may want to purchase a starter model to learn the basics of photography first.

Figure out what sort of photography you want to do. Lenses with wide apertures are good for portraits, but nature and sports photographs look better with telephoto lenses. If you’re not sure what type of digital photography you like, purchase a camera with a versatile super zoom lens.

As a word of advice, mega pixels are not the main determining factor of a camera’s quality. These days, most cameras have 10 or 12 mega pixels at the least. Entry-level, point-and-shoot cameras have these, too. Some so-called “cheap” digital cameras even allow the user to change the flash, light filter and lens!

If you can’t decide on a camera, read some reviews online to narrow the field. Well-known brands include Canon, Samsung and Fuji. You may find that the inexpensive cameras are perfect for you, or you might see a high-end feature that you really want to try out. Read the return policy to make sure that you can exchange the camera in case it doesn’t suit your needs.
