Vivitar is an electronics company known for its affordable products, including digital cameras. Inexpensive as they may be, they aren’t low-quality. Since this model is priced below $100, you aren’t going to find high-end features like HD video, but it has plenty of functionality for the beginner photographer.
The waterproof model has 10.1 mega pixels, which is about the industry average. Its LCD screen is on the small side, less than three inches across. It also has an optical zoom feature and an auto focus for no-brainer photos. It’s a good underwater camera if you like to snorkel or scuba dive – not too deep – this camera claims to work in depths of up to 10 feet.
The big SD memory card is a bonus for a camera this inexpensive. The waterproof model comes pre-installed with a 16MB card, but you can replace it with a bigger one if you think you’ll take more photos.
Since the Vivitar line is so inexpensive, you can actually find kits that include everything you need to start taking photos right away. The kits include a 4GB SD card, LCD screen protectors, a case and some batteries. The kit is a smart purchase for a child or someone who is new to photography. You might want to buy an extra SD card, however.
Vivitar doesn’t make high-end cameras, but their products are perfect for the dabbler or young adult. They make a good companion on camping trips, family holidays and school functions, but don’t expect to win the Pulitzer with a Vivitar digital camera. The bright side is that you don’t have to get too concerned if it ends up lost or broken!
